Arghya is offered as the Sun touches the horizon; at a river or pond with a clear view, reach a little early.
The four days · चार दिन
- Nahay Khay: bath in a river and one pure meal of lauki-bhaat and chana dal.
- Kharna: fast all day, then kheer of jaggery and roti as prasad in the evening; the 36-hour nirjala fast begins.
- Sandhya arghya: standing in water, offer arghya to the setting Sun with thekua, fruits and sugarcane in bamboo soups.
- Usha arghya: arghya to the rising Sun at dawn, then paran (breaking the fast).
